Jan 9: Women in Theatre Public Forum

Join the conversation; Vagabond School of the Arts want to hear your voice!
On Monday evening, a public forum will be held to dream together about the kind of culture Vagabond would like to see become a reality. Vagabond's goal is to see female and female-identified artists empowered to live and create in an environment that respects, honors, supports, and uplifts them. Vagabond knows that each of your voices, perspectives, experiences, and desires are important. The world needs to hear from women like you. Let’s take another step onward and upward on January 9th.

Monday, January 9, 2017 from 7:00pm to 9:00pm
Vagabond School of the Arts | 4001 North Ravenswood Ave. #504, Studio 3 Chicago, IL 60613

The theatre industry is ripe for change. Many artists, directors, writers, and producers here in Chicago are champions of progress and equal rights. Recently, our community has seen brave artists speak out to expose sexual harassment, steps taken in casting to become more gender inclusive, and a fire ignited to give more opportunities to artists of color and women. It is an exciting time.

While it is good that these topics are finally being discussed, many of us still experience harassment, discrimination, and oppression. It makes it difficult to be the confident, powerful, talented people we all are, and that is a shame. Our society needs strong artists to tell stories that teach us about each other, to reflect the beauty and pain of life, that we may grow in compassion and understanding. We need to continue investing in the conversation by creating opportunities to come together, speak out, and support one another.

The majority of the forum will be devoted to small and large group discussion. Wine and snacks will be plentiful!

Goals of the forum:
-promote unity among women in the industry
-empower women by affirming that they are in fact powerful, talented, individuals whose voices need to be heard
-provide a space to talk and dream about the positive change we want to see through small group discussion
-introduce a mentorship program
-get people connected to further breakout sessions that will focus on one issue to give more space for processing and empowerment
