|Victory Gardens Theater and ALTA Chicago present new play reading by Ryan Oliveira|
Since 2014, El Semillero (Spanish for seedbed or nursery) is a Chicago-based playwriting circle dedicated to fostering emerging Latinx playwrights and their work. Sponsored by ALTA Chicago (The Alliance of Latinx Theater Artists) and in residency at Victory Gardens Theater, El Semillero fosters playwrights developing first drafts of original plays over the course of 12 months, culminating in a series of free public readings.
Friday, June 8, 2018 at 7:30pm
Victory Gardens Theater | 2433 North Lincoln Ave., Chicago, IL 60614
Written and composed by: Ryan Oliveira
Directed by: Topher Leon
Synopsis: A solo kinda-musical in progress. A drunk Brazilian country singer casts doubt on Ryan's heritage, locking Ryan outside himself and into a past where he struggles to belong - not just as a Brazilian, but as an American (and a queer one at that). After all, he just wants to be loved. By Mom. By Men. By God. Or maybe he needs to belong to the ocean.
There will be an opportunity to provide feedback to the playwright after the reading. Any insights and curiosities to offer to develop the piece further are greatly appreciated!
This event is FREE and open to the public. For more details, clickhere.
