June 24: Church of the New Play: The Truffle Pig Talkback(Reading)
|Prop Thtr presents new play reading by Rory Jobst|
Church of The New Play is a weekly reading series featuring new work by local Chicago writers, devisers, and text generators of all performance forms. In each session, a new piece is read or presented followed by a talkback tailored to the artists' needs. This is an alternative to a script submission policy in that it gives creators' the space to present their work as it's meant to be experienced: live and out loud.

Church of the New Play presents...Truffle Pig Talkback by Rory Jobst
Synopsis: A talkback or "Q and A" after the screening of a film can reveal a lot about the film and even more about the filmmaker. The craft. The motivation. The context. The relevance. However, a talkback can also reveal much about the moderator and the audience...those who ask the questions. A talkback can also fail to reveal any potential issues about a film, giving way to flattery and civility as a means of to fall into good favor with the artist. Filmmaker Trent Colton is blessed with the opportunity of a talkback for his meta-film A & Q, a film about a similar kind of post-movie talkback. The proceedings go politely and appropriately to plan...until a disgruntled cinephile rebels against the noxious bootlicking and takes matters into his own hands.
