July 28: Chicago Dramatists' Saturday Series: Mah Jongg Swingers Club (Reading)
July: Chicago Dramatists' Saturday Series
The Saturday Series, our longest-running program, lies at the heart of Chicago Dramatists play development. Most Saturday Series events are public readings of plays-in-progress, but other events include panel discussions and fireside chats with visiting artists.
All plays read in the Saturday Series are directed and rehearsed and are presented with minimal staging. And since the theatre operates under an agreement with Actors' Equity Association, at least half of all roles in the Saturday Series involve union actors- which allows them to use some of the best acting talent in Chicago.
After each reading the audience members are invited to fill out written response sheets and to join in a moderated post-reading discussion, thereby adding their grist to the mill from which the playwright creates the play. We'd love to have you join us at any of our upcoming readings to witness the birth of new theatrical works and participate in their rearing.

Mah Jongg Swingers Club
By Resident Playwright Scott Woldman
Most people believe the Paradise Gold Retirement Community is a tranquil, idyllic place for Jewish couples to live out their Golden Years. However, most people would be wrong; as by day the women of Paradise Gold are dedicated to destroying anyone not part of the "in-group", while by night some of the women have launched a secret swingers community. It's who's in and who's out in this post-retirement quest for social dominance and sexual fulfillment. Based upon the awkward, uncomfortable and unwanted stories forced upon the playwright by his mother and her friends.
These events are FREE and open to the public, but pay what you can donations at the door are highly encouraged. For more details about the Saturday Series, click here.
