Adapted from our Cultural Conversations series, our Cultural Happenings intends to highlight artists, theatres, and artistic organizations committed to uplifting their communities and cultures. This page aims to showcase opportunities for patrons, supporters, and friends to get involved in cultural and artistic initiatives and support the diversity of our great theatre industry and city. Keep up with Cultural Happenings each celebratory month with our new Cultural Happenings Bookmark which you can find at League events and festivals throughout the year!
This October, join us in celebrating and highlighting LGBTQIA+ History Month with PRIDEChicago, with featured shows, artists, organizations, and events to support across Chicagoland. 🌟
Inspired by the 1969 Stonewall Uprising, Chicago held its first Gay Liberation March on June 27, 1970—one day before New York City and Los Angeles. What began as a small group of courageous activists taking to the streets has evolved over more than five decades into the iconic Chicago Pride Parade, organized by PRIDEChicago, an all-volunteer nonprofit dedicated to serving Chicago’s LGBTQ+ communities. Today, the parade brings together participants and allies from across the city, honoring a legacy of resilience, community, and Pride while carrying forward the work that remains.
Theatres! To show your support during LGBTQ+ History Month, reach out to PRIDEChicago to request free buttons, stickers, and promotional swag to distribute in your lobbies for audiences and/or behind the scenes for the creative teams. Contact ricky.moats@pridechicago.org
