Tim Coffman is one of the most active trombonists and instructors in the Chicago area. A graduate of the prestigious Jazz Studies program at Indiana University, he is in demand for studio and show work. He has performed with Frank Sinatra, Natalie Cole, Louie Bellson, The Woody Herman Orchestra, Frank Wess, Ron Carter, Johnny Griffin, Kurt Elling, Von Freeman, Tito Puente, Tom Harrell, Al Jarreau, Henry Mancini, Stevie Wonder, Diane Schur, Randy Brecker, Benny Golson, Joe Lovano, Slide Hampton, Diana Krall, Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga and many others. He performed with the Chicago Symphony playing lead trombone in the Duke Ellington “Nutcracker,” played with the WDR Big Band in Cologne, Germany with special guest Arturo Sanduval, and performed on the recording of “Porgy and Bess,” featuring Clark Terry and the Chicago Jazz Orchestra. Formerly with the Rob Parton Big Band and the Chicago Jazz Ensemble, he is currently a member of the New Standard Jazz Orchestra. His debut recording Crossroads is available on the Blujazz label. Coffman is a Conn/Selmer artist/clinician and has performed/adjudicated at various high schools, jazz festivals and universities around the country. Joining Tim for this concert will be fellow members of the College’s highly-esteemed jazz studies program. This season’s series is co-presented by Flashpoint Creative Arts, whose goal is to promote greater understanding of and participation in the art of improvisation with innovative artistic and educational experiences that draw people more deeply into the improvisatory process.
