Bangarra is an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organization and one of Australia’s leading performing arts companies, widely acclaimed around the world for its powerful dancing, distinctive theatrical voice, and utterly unique soundscapes, music and design. Led by Artistic Director Stephen Page, Bangarra’s work is forged from over 65,000 years of culture, embodied with contemporary movement. Bangarra’s dancers each have a proud Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander background, and each piece in the company’s repertoire draws on stories gathered from respected community elders.

This performance will begin with Artistic Director Stephen Page introducing the audience to Yirrkala artist Nyapanyapa Yunupingu. Bangarra dancers will then perform the piece Nyapanyapa, which brings to life the beautifully textured paintings of Yunupingu. Following the performance, Page and the dancers will return to the stage for a conversation and Q&A.

The Exelon Family Series offers high-quality, engaging programming designed to cultivate the next generation of arts lovers. These hour-long performances are designed for children ages 4-12. Children will have the opportunity to meet and interact with artists following the performance. And as always, audiences are encouraged to laugh, clap, and experience the theater in their own way — no shushing allowed!
