Young People’s Theatre of Chicago (YPT) launches its milestone Fifth-Anniversary Season with Laura Numeroff’s award-winning children’s classic, If You Give a Mouse a Cookie!
The adventure begins simply enough. A young Boy settles in with cookies and his favorite comic book when a curious little Mouse appears. The poor fellow is hungry. What can the Boy do but offer him a cookie?
Wouldn’t you do the same?
But if you give a mouse a cookie, he’s definitely going to want a glass of milk. And from there, one simple act of kindness spirals into a hilarious, fast-paced chain of cause-and-effect misadventures!
YPT’s production marks the return of Jody Davidson’s celebrated adaptation following a 15-year absence from the stage. After pursuing the performance rights for years, Artistic Director Randy White was honored that the Young People’s Theatre of Chicago was selected as the first Theatre for Young Audiences (TYA) company in the nation to bring this cookie-fueled classic back to American audiences. Mr. White first directed Davidson’s acclaimed adaptation in 2011. That early staging was praised as:
“Magic… Fun and funny. If you’ve been looking for an easy way to introduce your children to theater, it
doesn’t get any easier than this.”
Bring the whole family to If You Give a Mouse a Cookie for some mouse-sized mischief and get ready to
laugh your whiskers off!
