New Work
Runs Feb 01Feb 02, 2025

Through exploring and applying the work of the Chicago Neo-Futurists, Loyola students will embark on a journey of imperfection that emphasizes ‘process’ over ‘the product’ and ignites a search for inspiration and creativity in the mundane. This Project will first introduce Loyola students to Neo-Futurist work through an optional viewing of the theater company’s long-running show “The Infinite Wrench;” prompting students, from an audience view, to inquire about the neo-futurist style and what it hopes to achieve. Students will then investigate the artist’s point of view by taking a workshop led by the Neo-Futurists themselves, allowing students to explore a differing perspective on art-making, one which prompts immediacy, relevancy, and connectivity that dismantles the search for perfection. The project will conclude with a devised neo-futurist presentation musing the life of current day college students. This process will ask students to draw upon the disciples learned in school while abandoning the notion of scholastic assessment. Instead, students will be allowed to make art with the only barrier being its ambition to connect to an audience and inspire them toward thought and action.
