Dec 3: Sunday Spotlight - The Importance of Being Earnest
|Writers Theatre's Sunday Spotlight|
Are you curious about the world that surrounds your favorite plays? Sunday Spotlight offers access to the finest speakers, academicians and cultural leaders. This one-hour event takes place following select Sunday matinees and extends the conversation on Writers Theatre's stages by featuring an expert in an area connected to the play. For example, past audiences have learned from the experiences of Holocaust survivor Aaron Elster in a layered discussion around The Diary of Anne Frank and explored the nature of suspicion in Doubt: A Parable with the Director of Northwestern’s Center on Wrongful Convictions Karen Daniel.
Sunday, December 3, 2017 following the 2:00pm performance
Alexandra C. & John D. Nichols Theatre at Writers Theatre | 325 Tudor Court, Glencoe, IL 60022
This event directly follows the conclusion of the 2pm matinee performance. Start time is approximate.
The Importance of Being Earnest:
One of the cleverest comedies by one of the greatest writers in the English language, The Importance of Being Earnest introduces us to Jack and Algernon, two charming bachelors who are each living a double life, aided by a fictional alter ego called “Ernest.” But when they fall truly in love with a pair of proper young women, will they be able to bring an end to the charade and convince the formidable Lady Bracknell that they are suitable candidates for marriage? After all, “the one charm about marriage is that it makes a life of deception absolutely necessary for both parties.”
