New Philharmonic, under the baton of Maestro Muspratt, is joined by three acclaimed Guest Artists: Emily Birsan (soprano), Richard Ollarsaba (baritone), Thomas Aláan (countertenor) and the 80-voice Northwest Indiana Symphony Chorus, directed by Thomas McNichols, to perform “Carmina Burana,” a powerful cantata based on 24 poems written by medieval monks, celebrating dancing, drinking, and other worldly pleasures. Orff’s score is at times powerful, mysterious; especially the famous chorus “O Fortuna”, which reminds us that fate will always have her say. Borodin’s captivating melodies and energetic rhythms in “Polovtsian Dances” blend Russian folk elements to capture the grandeur and drama inherent in the music.
