When her estranged childhood sweetheart mysteriously dies, Amitra returns to Black Bear Island, which legend says is haunted by a monstrous man-killing bear. As she searches for the truth, the forest begins to engulf the house and her past begins to collide with the present as her memory starts to unfog. This gothic, magical realistic thriller explores regret, the unreliableness of our own memories, and the paths we choose to become who we are.

Our journey as an ensemble began in June 2019 at the School at Steppenwolf. We officially launched in Feb 2021 as Bramble Theatre Company.
We chose the humble bramble bush because of its beautiful duality: the thorn challenges while the fruit nurtures. Made of many tangled vines, it remains a single united organism.
We are an ensemble of multicultural artists who tell new stories that embrace this philosophy. With our work, we seek to ignite empathy, defy the status quo, and provide nourishment for the soul.
